President Obama on Saturday spoke to the Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest gay and lesbian civil rights organization, and he vowed to repeal the "don't ask, don't tell" policy that excludes gays and lesbians from serving in the U.S. military openly. A policy that was started 16 years ago by President Bill Clinton, “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” will be ended says Obama. Although he pledged to abolish the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, Obama didn’t give a specific timetable, leaving some to wonder if he will actually act on the measure. The President also promised to push for more measures including broadening the definition of hate crimes to include homophobic attacks.

(Feb. 19, 2009) President Obama unveils $75B mortgage relief plan

Attempting to tackle "a crisis unlike any we’ve ever known," President Barack Obama unveiled an ambitious $75 billion plan Wednesday to keep as many as 9 million Americans from losing their homes to bank foreclosure. "The American Dream is being tested by a home mortgage crisis that not only threatens the stability of our economy but also the stability of families and neighborhoods," he said. "While this crisis is vast, it begins just one house and one family at a time."

More expensive than expected, Obama’s plan aims to keep between 7 and 9 million people from foreclosure. Of the nearly 52 million U.S. homeowners with a mortgage, about 13.8 million, or nearly 27 %, owe more on their mortgage than their house is worth right now, according to Moody’s Economy.com.

Headlining the President's plan is a $75 billion Homeowner Stability Initiative, which would provide a set of incentives to mortgage lenders in an effort to convince them to help up to 4 million borrowers on the verge of losing their homes. The goal would be to cut monthly mortgage payments to sustainable levels, defined as no more than 31 percent of a homeowners income. Funding would come from the $700 billion dollar financial industry bailout passed by Congress last fall.

What’s Wrong with Barack?
by Willie Williamson – The Average Outsider

Barack comes off as a level headed, calm, smooth talking man of compassion, but under that veil seems to lay quite a different person. His charming way in front of an audience seems to be well rehearsed, and a learned skill. Watch him closely…you can easily see that Obama is acting…putting on a show. His gestures and mannerism is really not much different than most other politicians. Seems to me, Barack took lessons from the same acting coach, as did Hillary, Bill, and a host of others. The delivery might be a little different, but that’s due mostly to the speech writers.

Does Barack Obama’s association with Ex-Pastor Wright matter to me? Definitely…especially when that relationship is a “close” relationship, and ongoing for nearly twenty years. I’m a Christian, and if Wright was Pastor of my church spewing racial hate, I would expect him to be removed, or I would remove my children, and myself from that particular church –period. Enough has been said about that issue, of which my words would echo, so I am not going any further with the Wright thing. In my opinion…something is seriously flawed with Obama’s take on the whole thing.

On the issue of equating his “white mother’ or “white grandmother” on equal plane with the bigoted Wright, displays Barack’s flawed thinking also. As many have said…we can’t choose our blood relatives, but we certainly can choose our Pastor. Obama’s defense of Wright with “all the good things that he and the church has done…” amounts to a load of horse shit. A Christian church, and a man of God, is supposed to do good work in the community…it is not anything special, beyond what is expected. A true follower of Jesus Christ, anointed in the Spirit and believing in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, does not speak in a church to his congregation, like Jeremiah Wright.

“Typical white person”…????? What thinketh thee of a man who takes offense to being referred to as “articulate”, then freely uses a stereotypical remark about his white grandmother? Me, I don’t think much of a hypocrite like that…I don’t trust hypocrites, and I don’t want another one as my President.

Would somebody ‘PLEASE’ come out of the crowd who is worthy of our vote…I’m so tired of waiting.  TAO - http://www.policeblues.com/

(Jan. 2008) Obama Sweeps Iowa

Jaws dropped, and eyes rolled across the political sphere last night, with Barack Obama sweeping the Democratic Iowa Caucus to an overwhelming victory. Edwards squeezed out Clinton by a hair, pushing her to third. While on the republican side, Huckabee left his opponents in the dust as well.

Both candidates surprised most of the political watchers with their huge voter’s support. It has been estimated that more than sixty percent of eligible voters turned out to vote. That figure indicates a 10% higher voter turnout than in 2004, and enormous when compared to the norm.

Pollsters have reported that on the Democratic side, Barack received the biggest support by woman voters, and the young. Hillary had been expected to rake in the female vote, of which, she seemed to be counting upon for a win. Huckabee can thank the huge Christian, Evangelistic support for his landslide victory.

It has been postulated that, both Barak Obama and Huckabee’s surprising lead in Iowa, came from a cross-section of race, age and gender who are simply tired of the Washington insiders, who have consistently, failed the American people. There seems to be a loud cry for real change at the Capital, and last night…one would need to be hearing deficient, to have not heard it.
